Freightliner Trucks is an American truck manufacturer and a division of Daimler Trucks North
America. The division is known mainly for the heavy duty class 8 diesel trucks it offers, as
well as class 5-7 trucks. In the 1930s, Consolidated Freightways (CF) decided to produce their
own truck line from reconstructed Fageols, after finding most heavy trucks lacked sufficient
power to climb the steep mountain grades in the western United States. The trucks were branded
"Freightliners", with the first units produced in Consolidated Freightways' maintenance
facility in Salt Lake City around 1942.

International trucks have been built and sold by the International Harvester Company (renamed
Navistar International in 1986) from 1914 until the present (2019).
Originally marketed to farmers the trucks were immediately successful and were sold to
businesses in cities as well. Since then International trucks have been sold worldwide and
built or assembled in the United States, Australia, Brazil, Canada, England, Germany, Mexico,
South Africa, the Soviet Union, and Turkey.


Kenworth truck is an American manufacturer of medium and heavy-duty Class 8 trucks with offices based
in Kirkland, Washington, a suburb of Seattle. Kenworth is one of three major truck divisions
and brands under parent company Paccar. Kenworth trucks was founded in Portland,
Oregon in 1912 by brothers George T. and Louis Gerlinger, Jr. as a car and truck dealership
known as Gerlinger Motor Car Works. In 1914, they decided to build their own truck with a more
powerful inline six-cylinder engine, the first put into a commercial truck.


Mack Trucks, Inc., is an American truck–manufacturing company and a former manufacturer of
buses and trolley buses. Founded in 1900 as the Mack Brothers Company, it manufactured its
first truck in 1907 and adopted its present name in 1922. Mack Trucks is a subsidiary of AB
Volvo which purchased Mack along with Renault Trucks in 2000. After being founded in
Brooklyn, New York, the company's headquarters were in Allentown, Pennsylvania from 1905 to
2009 when they moved to Greensboro, North Carolina. The entire line of Mack products is


Peterbilt Motors Company, founded in 1939, is an American manufacturer of medium- and heavy-
duty trucks. A subsidiary of Paccar, which also owns fellow heavy-duty truck manufacturer
Kenworth. Peterbilt trucks Motors is headquartered in Denton, Texas and operates manufacturing
facilities in Denton, Texas and Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec.In the first third of the 20th century,

Sterling Trucks Corporation (commonly designated Sterling) is a former American truck
manufacturer of Class 5-8 trucks. Taking on its name from a defunct American truck
manufacturer, Sterling was formed in 1997 as Freightliner acquired the rights to the heavy-
truck product lines of Ford Motor Company. Sterling-brand trucks were sold in the United
States, Canada, Mexico, Australia, and New Zealand.


Western Star Trucks Sales, Inc., commonly designated Western Star, is an American truck
manufacturer headquartered in Portland, Oregon, United States and a subsidiary of Daimler
Trucks North America, in turn a wholly owned subsidiary of the German Daimler AG.In 1967 White
Motor Company started the Western Star division as White Western Star with a new plant at
Kelowna, British Columbia, sharing headquarters with White in Cleveland, Ohio. It was not
included in the 1980 sale of White to Volvo, instead being sold to Bow Valley Resources and
Nova Corporation, each owning 50%.
